General Questions
- What is TROL?
a. TROL stands for “The Ritual of Life” and is a role-playing game that has gradually evolved from 1996. However, at this point in time, the game has largely been offline, but constantly in development with fine-tuning rules and regulations.
- What are some of these evolutions that have taken place?
a. TROL has gone from a single character (human warrior) to a wide-range of 90 race/class combinations. Each sort of race and class has its own advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, The game started with one village (where the story begins). However, the game now has twelve villages, and the World of TROL is continuously expanding.

- What are some of the advantages of playing TROL versus some of the other online games?
a. TROL has many advantages, including the wide-range of race/class combinations, an amazing storyline, some of the best soundtracks (currently been developed) and an ingenious ‘life system’. There are many giveaways and other prizes planned, plus, someone will always be on hand, should any issues arise.

- What is the aim of the game?
a. You’ll read more about the Game (and it’s aims) in our Game Info section.

- How do I build my character?
a. At the beginning of the adventure, you will be able to upgrade your base character’s statistics by a total of 70 points. The statistic that you rate the highest will gain +25 points, the second will gain +20 points, the third will gain +10 points. Every other statistic will gain 5 points. In the event that one statistic reaches 100 (the highest it can go), players will be able to put more character development points (CDP) towards other statistics.
When your character levels up, they will be able to upgrade their statistics by three CDPs (to a maximum of 100), and there are some racial and class bonuses and penalties to some of these statistics.
However, there are some areas in the game where statistics can be either increased or decreased, either temporarily or permanently through the use of spells, blessings, curses and traps. Be careful!

- How does the experience system work?
a. Each race/class has a percentage penalty for the experience rate, in accordance to their different abilities. For example, a Human has a 0% penalty, as their starting statistics start fairly low, and they have no special advantages, whereas a Scorpio has immunity to poison and can later apply poison to weapons (to do additional damage for a limited time, as well as inflict a poison status). Scorpios also start out with a lot higher statistics in comparison with Humans. The class system works exactly the same.

Offline Play Testing Questions
- What is “Offline Play Testing”?
a. Offline play testing is similar to the old days where people played Dungeons and Dragons in their home town, whether it be Perth or anywhere else in the world. There was boards, dice, maps, character sheets, and on occasions, little figurines and other models.
- Why do you need Offline Play Testers?
a. We have approximately six people who play The Ritual of Life RPG at this point in an offline form – and we need your help. We are chasing approximately 20 or more people who are interested in RPGs and want to have some say into how The Ritual of Life RPG will be produced. This Offline Play Testing is vital, as once we have done our trials (between 3-6 months), we will use all of this feedback to approach programmers, musicians/bands, marketing companies and the like to ensure that this RPG becomes a true computer game (if not an MMORPG).
- Is there any cost involved in being an Offline Play Tester?
a. At this point in time, there is no cost to play The Ritual of Life RPG while everyone has a chance to try it out. We also provide food and drink for each session.
- I’m interested in coming down and checking it out! Where and when?
a. We are at the “Casurina Wellard Community Hall” every Sunday from 5 September 2010, and then every fortnight after that between 1:00pm and 4:30pm. We encourage as many people to come down as possible to check out TROL.
- Are you looking for people to help out?
a. At this point in time, we have a total of eight ADMs (Assistant Dungeon Masters). It is very important that we have reliable ADMs, as they are players who display strong leadership characteristics and genuinely want to help out others. They will also have special powers in the game, to be used only when necessary. If you would like to be an ADM, please E-mail Steve on steve@trolrpg.com.

- What other benefits will Offline Play Testers get?
a. While it is not confirmed that The Ritual of Life will be turned into a computer game or MMORPG, I will (if it is possible) try to obtain free or discounted copies of the software (once it becomes available) or free or discounted membership (if it becomes an MMORPG). Please bear in mind that this will be a loyalty bonus for all Offline Play Testers, and that these will only happen if The Ritual of Life is developed as a computer game or MMORPG.

In-Game Questions
- What’s this “Life System” I keep hearing so much about?
a. In Greenville, the Guildmaster gives the players six pink potions which they immediately drink, and the Guildmaster explains to the players that each pink potion is the same as a ‘revival spell’ – in that each one consumed will revive the player once. The players are under no obligation to drink any further pink potions, but each pink potion consumed from there on out will revive the player once again.
- Okay – so that’s great, so what happens if I die, and how do I get revived?
a. It is absolutely imperative that the player does not go into battle without having at least one ‘revival’ active. If they go into battle and die, the game is over. However, if a revival spell has been cast, the players’ body shuts down for 300 seconds (5 minutes) while the revival spell slowly starts to work. Once the 300 seconds is up, the player slowly rises to their feet, and they are shielded by a shimmering force for 60 seconds, where they cannot take damage. They can use this time to run to safety or to try and battle on.
- Where can I get Pink Potions from?
a. You receive a Pink Potion every time you level up. In addition, certain players may wish to buy/sell pink potions, and there are also hidden areas in the game where pink potions are occasionally littered. These potions are invaluable.
- What other side effects of there are running out of HP?
a. You lose 5% of your experience, but there are no other negative side effects.
- What happens if I get a “Game Over”?
a. All of your items and GP are immediately dropped (meaning a friend can pick some of the most important items are for you). Your character becomes removed from the system, although the next character you create will begin with 8% of the experience from the previous character you had.
- Stuff is too expensive at shops. How can I fix this?
a. You gain a 5% discount for buying items and a 5% bonus for selling items if you are of a “Revered” reputation, and a 2% discount for buying items and a 2% bonus for selling items if you are of a “Respected” reputation.
However, if you have the alignment of “Violent”, you must pay an extra 5% for buying items and you lose 5% when selling items. If you have the status of “Villainous”, you must pay an extra 10% for buying items and you lose 10% when selling items. If you have a “Vile” status, you will not be able to buy from most shops (exceptions apply to this rule however).
Being a Neutral character provides no bonuses or penalties.
- What other advantages are there of being good or evil?
a. Basically, apart from certain good/neutral/evil quests for specific alignments, there are items that either can only be used/worn/wielded for certain alignments, and there are certain ‘cursed’ items that can change your alignment. People might also have more information for those who are good, and guards may well attack those who are evil. But in some towns, the reverse is true.
- What does a Power Crystal do?
a. If you find all 12, something good might happen.
- What does a NYS Gem do?
a. “No Idea!” is the latest response from one of the players, “ask Blondie!”
- Who’s Blondie?
a. Another character in the game.
